Welcome to the
Lueneburg Christmas Market
Only 50Km south of Hamburg, this ancient salt-trading and Hanseatic town has an exceptionally good atmosphere and a beautiful romantic Christmas market.
In the run up to Christmas, thousands of little Christmas lights illuminate the town, its beautiful gabled houses, baroque façades and medieval churches, to wonderful effects.
The Lüneburg Christmas Market stalls are decorated on a Brothers Grimm fairytale theme, they transform Lüneburg's pedestrian streets into a magical fairytale world.
Illuminations also give a seasonal glow to the three historic churches of St. Johannis, St. Michaelis and St. Nicolai and the town hall itself.
Various handmade crafts and Christmas gifts are sold side by side with hot chestnuts, bratwurst, candied nuts and apples, hot wine and cider plus Glühwein and punch, which warm the body and souls of visitors in the cold winter nights.
Taking place on the first advent weekend only, one highlight is the historic Christmas market, where farmers and craftsmen stroll around in 16th century costumes.
Christmas shopping takes place in the city centre amid a mysterious glow of excitement.
For entertainment there is a daily Christmas programme starting at 4pm. For children Farther Christmas will also appear at 4pm every day.
